Pet Silhouettes, Part II

I painted two silhouettes of our dogs last February, and adored them so much that I decided to make more!  You can't have too much Corgi love, right?

To do so, I first searched for two eligible photos of Crash and Zubrus.

Our printer is buried in the attic, so I lightly traced their outlines from the laptop screen on a piece of printer paper.  I tried to capture all of the intricacies of fur to make them appear as lifelike as possible.

Zubie's photo cropped off portions of his ears, so I improvised them.

Once done, I used an X-Acto knife to cut out the outline of each pup.

I then placed the paper outlines on two separate canvases that I bought on sale from Michael's.

Once the paper outlines were in place, I traced them directly on the canvas using a pencil.

For Zubie's, I altered his so that the tips of his feet curled around the bottom side of the canvas.

Now it was time to paint!  These acrylic paints are perfect for the job and are less than a buck each.

Using a small acrylic paint brush, I painted the backgrounds of each canvas.  I took my time painting the outline of the pups to ensure that I captured all of the details nicely.  Each silhouette required three coats of paint.

Finished!  Easy enough, right?

And here's my mini gallery of Corgi silhouettes!  I will probably create a few more in the upcoming weeks.  I'm a little obsessed.

These silhouettes are fun, cheap, and easy to make.  I'm completely art-challenged, and these are a cinch.  Also, this project is not only perfect for pets, but can also be used for engagements, weddings, baby showers, kids' rooms -- you name it!

Hope you like them, as well!
